TERROIR

Located in the heart of the Entre-deux-Mers region, Château Marjosse is the secret garden of Pierre Lurton, the famous director of Châteaux d'Yquem and Cheval Blanc. A remarkable terroir of 40 hectares of vines, composed of exceptional clay-limestone soils, only 14 km south of Saint-Emilion, Marjosse produces red and white wines.

The white wines represent 12 hectares of the surface and are elaborated from the traditional grape varieties of Bordeaux which are the sauvignon blanc and gris, the sémillion, and the muscadelle. The plots, first planted in the 1880s and replaced by American rootstocks after phylloxera, are carefully tended all year round, from plowing to Guyot pruning to harvesting.

Some vines planted in 1920 still produce grapes of very good quality. Grandson and son of a winemaker, Pierre follows in the footsteps of one of the most respected families in Bordeaux and uses all their knowledge to make exceptional wines.

KNOW-HOW

Each variety is harvested and vinified separately according to a parcel-by-parcel selection process in order to be as precise as possible when blending. The grapes are picked mainly in the morning to benefit from cool temperatures, thus limiting oxidation and preserving the varietal aromas.

Once harvested, they are sorted and gently pressed in pneumatic presses. The juice obtained is kept cold on the lees for a few days to release more aromatic precursors. After settling, the wines are fermented at low temperatures for one to two weeks, always with the aim of optimizing the aromatic palette of our wines.

After fermentation, the wine is aged on fine lees for 2 to 3 months, with regular stirring of the lees, adapted according to the tasting of each batch.

WINE

Beautiful pale color with green reflections, brilliant and limpid. Very delicate aromas, more marked by the Semillon, with notes of white fruits (pear, white peach, lychee). In the mouth, we find the characteristic "Marjosse" style, combining richness, tension and freshness. The richness of the vintage is reflected in a dense mid-palate. The salinity of the finish is accompanied by beautiful bitters, prolonging the finish.

TASTING NOTES

Decanter just rated this vintage 91/100 : “Typically aromatic nose, herbal and grassy with tropical and citrus elements. Succulent, softly mouthwatering with a weight and density from the oak ageing that also gives a slightly spiced edge to the peach, pear and nectarine and apricot fruit. Fresh and full-bodied, structured and complex.”
