TERROIR

A remarkable property belonging to the Miailhe family since 1859, whose unique terroir of 25 hectares of vines in the Margaux appellation in a single block, surrounded by three Grands Crus Classés, has made Château Siran a success. Edouard Miailhe, the sixth generation, took over the estate in 2007, and has since invested generously in the vineyard and the cellars, succeeding in bringing this "forgotten estate" of the 1855 classification back to the forefront.

Out of tens of thousands of wines reviewed, the 2018 Siran won first place in Wine Enthusiast's "100 Best Wines of 2021. "

Produced from the same plateau of fine siliceous gravel, S de Siran is the result of a rigorous selection of young vines. The S is made with the same care as Château Siran and is distinguished by a predominantly Merlot blend, which gives it an immediate charm.

KNOW-HOW

The vineyard is cultivated following sustainable agriculture with experimentation in organic agriculture on several plots since 2018. Each vineyard plot is worked like a garden, vine by vine, according to the requirements of the terroir: ploughing, grassing and green work. The use of inputs is limited to a strict minimum, with a preference for organic products and techniques.

The search for optimal maturity and careful sorting at harvest time allow for the vinification of very high-quality grapes. In 2018, six new vats were added to the estate's temperature-controlled stainless-steel vat room to allow for even more precise intra-plot vinification and more complex and precise blending possibilities. Extraction is done by pumping over and releasing according to the batch, followed by a prolonged maceration at 26º-30º C and a 10-20 days vatting period. The wine is aged in oak barrels for 12 months.

WINE

Best served between 16 and 18 degrees, this fine Margaux is built on a blend of the three Médoc grape varieties. The red fruit notes and elegance come from the dominance of the Merlot, the tannic structure of the Cab Sauvignon, the intense colour and spicy notes of the Petit Verdot. It is a charming wine with smooth tannins.

TASTING NOTES

Regularly rated above 90 by JAMES SUCKLING, the 2018 blend was described as “A juicy and rich barrel sample with dark-chocolate and berry character. Full body, velvety tannins and a flavorful finish.”
